Waterloo Region is comprised of the three municipalities of Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge, plus the four townships of Woolwich, Wellesley, North Dumfries, and Wilmot. The population of Waterloo Region is over 500,000. The majority of schools are part of either the Waterloo Region District School Board (98 elementary schools, 15 secondary schools) or Waterloo Catholic District School Board (47 elementary school, 5 secondary schools). In addition, Waterloo Region has 4 French schools and 11 private schools. In total, there are over 90,000 elementary and secondary school students in Waterloo Region. Active & Safe Routes to School in Waterloo Region is coordinated by the Active Transportation to School Workgroup of Together 4 Health and is funded by Together 4 Health through the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion. Together 4 Health is committed to creating a healthy community by promoting and supporting healthy lifestyle choices in Waterloo Region. As a partnership of agencies and individuals, we work collectively with the people of Waterloo Region to inspire, create and celebrate a culture of wellness in communities where we live, work and play. The Active and Safe Routes to School Workgroup is comprised of representatives from representatives from Region of Waterloo Public Health, Waterloo Region District School Board, Waterloo Catholic District School Board, City of Cambridge, City of Kitchener, City of Waterloo, Ministry of Transportation, and Waterloo Region Police Service.
